"Goal-line technology on the verge of an international breakthrough"
FIFA has awarded GoalControl GmbH in Würselen the contract to provide goal-line technology for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil with its goal-line system "GoalControl-4D" and the watch system in cooperation with GoalRefTM. The 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup takes place from 06.15.2013-06.30.2013 in the Brazilian cities of Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Fortaleza, Belo Horizonte, Salvador and Recife.
“We are, of course, very happy with this decision," said GoalControl Managing Director Dirk Broichhausen, “and we are looking forward to a fantastic host country and helping goal-line technology make its international breakthrough. Brazil really is something special in many respects: it is home to the record-breaking world champions, international soccer greats come from Brazil. But Brazil is in transition. Even though the country has undergone fantastic economic development in recent years, many problems such as poverty are yet to be resolved. Brazilian soccer represents both hope and leisure to many people."
The GoalControl-4D system, which obtained the official FIFA license in February 2013, is based on 14 high-speed cameras which are positioned around the field and aligned with both goals. The position of the ball is continuously and automatically recorded in three dimensions (X, Y and Z coordinates) when the ball is near the goal line. When the ball has completely crossed the goal line, the central control unit sends an encrypted signal to the referee’s watch in less than a second. “Our unique selling point is the outstanding flexibility and accuracy. Existing goals with white nets can still be used and GoalControl-4D can be played with any standard ball," said GoalControl Managing Director Dirk Broichhausen. Camera images of goal incidents can be optionally recorded. This allows match highlights to be analyzed later. GoalControl-4D also has a powerful tool in the referee’s watch with the GoalRefTM watch system. “GoalControl and GoalRef stands for strong Made in Germany cooperation with excellent solutions expertise,” added Dirk Broichhausen.
