Eschweiler / Porto. 11.21.2016. Liga Portugal has chosen GoalControl GmbH to provide the Estadio Algarve in Faro/Loulé with its FIFA licensed goal-line technology system “GoalControl-4D” for the forthcoming semifinals and final of the League Cup, the “Taça da Liga”.
The Taça da Liga, officially the bwin Cup, is a competition organized by the Portuguese League which was first held in the 2007/08 season. All 32 clubs in the first and second Portuguese leagues are eligible. The current cup holders and record winners with seven cup wins is Benfica, who is again fighting to win the cup in the final stages of this year’s competition. The semifinals will take place on January 25/26, 2017 and the final on 01.29.2017. “We are pleased to be working with the Portuguese League and that they have placed their trust in us. We see this as confirmation of the reliability of our system technology,” said Simon Rolfes, Managing Director of GoalControl GmbH. With the Estadio Algarve, GoalControl is now equipping a second stadium in Portugal with its goal-line technology after the Estadio Coimbra. The goal-line technology system GoalControl-4D, which obtained an official FIFA license in February 2013, has since then been successfully used in international tournaments such as the FIFA Confederations Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the previous FIFA World Cup in Brazil, it has supplied various soccer stadiums around the world with its technology and is being used for a second season in the 20 stadiums in France’s Ligue 1.
