GoalControl again awarded contract for the Portuguese League Cup

Aachen/Porto 11.29.2017 After the successful implementation last year, Liga Portugal has again chosen GoalControl GmbH as its technology partner for the League Cup.

The FIFA® licensed goal-line technology system “GoalControl 4D” will be installed for the final matches of the League Cup, the "Taça da Liga" at the impressive Estádio Muncipal de Braga stadium.

The Portuguese League is again this year relying on goal-line technology from Germany! Following its successful use last year, the league has decided to play the Final Four of the League Cup with goal-line technology.

"The new contract from the Portuguese League confirms our commitment to establishing goal-line technology in all leagues and competitions. In Liga Portugal, we have found an innovative partner who wants to make the sport fairer, but also offer the audience additional services to make the broadcast even more attractive,” said Simon Rolfes, Chairman of GoalControl GmbH.

Managing Director Daniel Marchwinski is looking forward to exciting competitions and hoping to see the goal-line technology used in many situations, "Every replay on TV shows how important the use of technology is and that with the goal-line technology, crucial decisions can be made in a fraction of a second fairly and clearly without interrupting the flow of the game."

The Taça da Liga, officially the bwin Cup, is a competition organized by the Portuguese League which was first held in the 2007/08 season. All 32 clubs in the first and second Portuguese leagues are eligible. The semifinals take place on January 23 & 24 and the final on January 27 in Braga/Portugal.

The goal-line technology system GoalControl-4D, which obtained an official FIFA license in February 2013, has since then been successfully used in international tournaments such as the FIFA Confederations Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the previous FIFA World Cup in Brazil, it has supplied various soccer stadiums around the world with its technology and is being used for a third season in the 20 stadiums in France’s Ligue 1.
