GoalControl GmbH, Aachen has obtained the FIFA license for its goal-line system, "GoalControl-4D". The GoalControl-4D system is based on 14 high-speed cameras which are positioned around the field and aligned with both goals. The position of the ball is continuously and automatically recorded in three dimensions (X, Y and Z coordinates) when the ball is near the goal line. When the ball has completely crossed the goal line, the central control unit sends an encrypted signal to the referee’s watch in less than a second.
GoalControl-4D can be operated with standard goals and balls. After successfully completing the test series carried out at the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf and the Veltins-Arena, Gelsenkirchen in February 2013, GoalControl GmbH and FIFA signed a license agreement.
