FIFA grants goal line technology license to GoalControl

The German company GoalControl GmbH, Würselen, Germany, has received the FIFA GLT license for its goal line technology system GoalControl-4D.

The GoalControl-4D system is equipped with 14 high speed cameras that are located around the pitch and focused on both goal mouths. The ball’s position is continuously and automatically captured in three dimensions ( X-, Y- and Z-Coordinates) when it is close to the goal. In case that the ball has passed the goal line, the central processing unit sends an encrypted radio signal to the referee’s watch in less than one second. By deciding for GoalControl-4D, the leagues, clubs or tournament organizers benefit from outstanding flexibility as they can continue using the existing goal frames and the important white goal nets. Furthermore all soccer balls can be used and there are no modifications to pitch ground necessary. All of this makes life much easier for the stadium management and the stadium groundkeeper.  Additionally, GoalControl focused particularly on simple and user friendly operation, so each stadium can operate its system without external assistance.

As an option it is possible to record image data for any use in replays of goal events during or after the match on the stadium LED panels or on TV. Replays can also include 3D-rendered sequences of the ball into the goal from virtual view points.

After successfully passing all tests at the Esprit-Arena in Düsseldorf and the Veltins-Arena Gelsenkirchen in January and February 2013, FIFA and GoalControl signed the License Agreement for Goal-line Technology.

With immediate effect the licensed goal-line technology system GoalControl-4D can be used worldwide in all matches, soccer leagues and tournaments. GoalControl takes part in the tender procedure to provide GLT systems for FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
